● Task 2

New cards to bear personal holograms // ─ Wayland Printing //
By Rebecca Lewis //
Wayland Printing Tech., Inc. on Thursday announced /
that it has developed a new technology / that will make it possible /
for credit cards to bear three-dimensional holographic images of the cardholder. //
Credit cards imprinted with identification photos, /
and with holographic 3-D images / have long been popular. //
But according to Wayland, /
this is the first time / new technology has made it economical /
to print cards with individual 3-D holographic images /
generated from I.D. photos of the owner. //
“This brings credit card security to a new level,” /
said Wayland Spokesperson Gina Rohr. // “The images are so realistic, /
it really is like seeing yourself / in the round right there on the card.” //
Wayland plans / to begin providing the cards to credit card companies /
at the end of next month. //

Dear Ms. Lewis, // The article printed in your August 2 morning edition /
regarding our new credit card technology / was generally accurate and informative, /
and we appreciate your informing the public of this important development. //
The quote in the story, however, /
was mistakenly attributed to someone / who no longer works with our company. //
As you no doubt remember, /
I was the person contacted for the story by telephone, /
and I recall making the statement quoted in the story. // Please be advised /
that although Ms. Rohr has worked with us in the past, /
she has not been affiliated with Wayland Printing for more than two years, /
and has no connection with this story. //
We are not demanding a printed correction, /
but would like to suggest that care be taken in the future /
to ensure proper attribution of quotes /
and other information associated with our company. //
Thank you for your kind attention in this matter. // Sincerely, /
Lyndon Aames // Public Relations Department // Wayland Printing Tech., Inc. //

ATTN: All Employees //
This is a reminder /
that our companywide semiannual General Meeting is coming up /
in the cafeteria of the main office building / at 2:00 P.M. on June 1. //
All employees including part-time staff / will be expected to attend. //
Unlike previous General Meetings, / in which attendance was merely recommended, /
you will be required to attend, /
and exceptions can only be made with written approval /
from your immediate supervisor or another qualified senior coworker. //
We have decided to make these twice-yearly meetings mandatory /
in order to ensure /
that they will prove to be as productive and informative as possible. //
Thank you in advance for your active participation. //

Subject: Draft Memo //
Thank you for sending me a draft of your memo on the meeting /
before you decided to distribute it. //
It’s generally a well-written memo. //
But I would like to make a few suggestions. //
During the five years that I was writing the ACC memos, / I learned that /
the terms “General Meeting” and “main office” should be replaced /
with the preferred terms “All-Company Conference (or “ACC”) /
and “corporate headquarters.” //
There’s no logical justification for this. //
It’s just a matter of company culture, I suppose. //
Also, you don’t need to be so specific about the place and time of day. //
That information may change. //
Simply note the date, /
and then be ready to respond to any requests for scheduling details /
that you might receive later. //
Together with this e-mail, / I am attaching a copy of your draft /
in which I have underlined the parts that I suggest you should change. //
After making these minor edits, / please go ahead and distribute it. //
Sincerely, // Ralph A. //
